Media especially is like water that makes every thing wet wherever it flows, taking with it sometimes even the largest obstacles in its path. No doubt it has its role in culturing a large part of the land and there is a large capacity and tendency for absorption and need cultivation in our part of the deserted land, but just as pollution in this water makes it unfit for cultivation--- there remains a constant need of filtration and processing of the incoming water before 'OUR' field turn into 'THEIR'.
Once it was said that if you adapt a second language its not just the language, it is the culture that you unknowingly start to adapting--- but in our setup there are other easier ways for a "cultural switch" rather than learning languages.
Majority of us spent our recreational our watching movies from as far as Holly Wood to the next-door neighbours. Cable has no doubt to some extent cut our expenses from the "new arrivals" in the neighborhood video shops, although for some "Filmphilies" it has added to their greed and desire for the new upcoming stuff if the cinema market.
Cable has gained its entry into almost every house from the elite class to those who hardly manage to keep ends together--- and surprisingly this foreigner has gained a warm and passionate welcome from all classes. At first it just seemed a little connection to the outer world, a source of information, and up-to-date events and colorful entertainment, but as time passed and networks progressed it became more than that. Lets talk in particular about Indian channels. No doubt their drama industry had flourished a lot in the previous decade, families have switched from PTV to Zee TV and Star Plus and other Indian channels for family entertainment, one of the causes being availability and access of cable to each and every place in town.
Millions of people from far across lands got enlarged with their hearts beating with the leading roles in the touching and emotional serials. Day after day not only this exciting business flourish but as the number of serials increased people grew more anxious and got more involved in this large world of fantasy, glamour and passion. The main reason of such great success and popularity of Star serials in our part was there comprehensive language and similar circumstances across the two lands and that's why although they presented different traditions and attitudes they mentally manipulated and emotionally captured a large number of its viewers. This being the strongest point in their popularity and success.
Things have gone so far that it wont be uncommon if you catch up 2 young girls talking hours over phone discussing how badly "Premna" has suffered because of " Anuradh" or "baichari Kum Kum key sath kya hoa?"
A whole batch of new generation has got very strongly hed to them in their sub-conscious minds. Although both type viewers equally involved but in the female viewers such dramas leave longer lashing impacts. It shows in their ways of falling dressing, dealings and even.
A few back my cousin was upset that she missed her previous episode of "Kasauti" and the Liltto 12 years massi replied, "baji to kiya hoa - they show a repeat every day at 12 noon". I was astonished. do you have cable too? I asked, no, but we get the signals for Star Plus as they are so many lines nearby. She replied. I was astonished these are the people who don't earn enough to feed properly, they didn't get education, but off course, what they got by luck was access to the cable!.
I don't mean that its hazardous or smelting unbearable, but it is effective enough to change a Pakistani mind to a confused mind with no sense of proper ideology __ the expand of such a wane of mind should be taken into consideration or in upcoming years a mutant breed of Indian Pakistani would come into action __ as they had idealized "Kum Kum" and "Premna".
Unless the people are immunized against such foreign antigens with proper education, both cultural and to some extinct ideological which comes from religion its not really safe to leave them alone with such a great and expanded expose to the cable network.
